I hope you have been enjoying these last few weeks of great weather as much as I have!

This is the time of year when we start reviewing student learning information, particularly in the areas of reading and math. Teachers are preparing for parent conferences and what we call our Tier 1 meetings, when each grade level reviews beginning of the year assessment data to determine the effectiveness of our instruction. They will share this information with you, as well during your child’s upcoming conference. You will have an opportunity to review the results of several assessments and other indicators of progress.

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for you to participate in your child’s conference (I might add that many teachers also ask students to participate, as well). During these conferences, teachers will work with you to complete a conference report called A Roadmap to Success where you will discuss your child’s strengths as well as strategies and achievement goals. You will also discuss our building’s School/Parent Compact, which outlines how we will partner for
your student’s success.

If you haven’t signed up for a conference on either October 21, 22, or 23rd, please let us know as soon as possible by contacting us at 313-1900 so we can get you scheduled. Parents needing conferences in languages other than English may need to meet at a different time, and will be notified as to when a translator is available. If you can’t make it on any of the conference days, we can see if other arrangements can be made so you can still meet with your child’s teacher.

Classroom Changes
If you are a parent of a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade student, you will have received a letter about a new teacher assigned to our building. Welcome to Monica Akers, who will be teaching third grade starting Monday, October 12. Adding another teacher allows us to alleviate the two split grade classrooms currently taught by Ms. Nguyen and Mr. Warner, giving us two third grades (Mrs. Corlett and Mrs. Akers), two 4th grades (Ms. Bruni and Ms. Nguyen), and two fifth grades (Ms. Van Damme and Mr. Warner). Parents/guardians of students that will be changing classrooms received a phone call notifying them of the move. Please feel free to contact me at 360-313-1900 if you have questions.

Fall Festival October 16
Our hard working Padres en Alerta group have partnered with PTO to bring us our second annual Fall Festival! Please join us at Fruit Valley from 6-8 p.m., October 16, for this free event that offers great food donated by La Costa restaurant and other partners, games and crafts for the whole family, and a petting zoo! It will be great family fun! See you
there!
